addiction vs obsession

I am honestly having difficulty differentiating addiction vs obsession. I guess addiction can be controlled but obsession is something psychological?! Why did I ask? Because, hubby said that he's glad I am again addicted with make-up and not bags or jewelry which I was last year. The reason for this because cosmetics and other beauty products are less expensive than bags and jewelries. But of course, the latter can be long-term investments.
